Trump Aide Stephanie Grisham, Next White House Press Secretary, Trump hires Stephanie Grisham to replace Sarah Sanders as press secretary. Stephanie Grisham, spokeswoman for first lady Melania Trump, has been named the new White House press secretary. First lady Melania Trump announced Tuesday that her own spokeswoman, Stephanie Grisham, will take over for Sarah Sanders as White House press secretary.
Grisham’s name was reported to be among the frontrunners as rumors swirled over who would replace the outgoing Sanders, who President Trump said has done “an incredible job” during her tenure. Grisham is set to become the third White House press secretary under President Donald Trump, following Sanders and Sean Spicer, who held the job for part of 2017. Sanders last day on the job is Friday. She will also take on the added role of communications director, a job that has been vacant since the departure of Bill Shine in March, and will keep her role with Mrs. Trump.
US President Donald Trump didn't look far for his next press secretary in Grisham, who for the past two years has been the communications director for the first lady. Grisham will keep her current job too. Grisham, who also serves as the first lady's deputy chief of staff, will become Trump's third press secretary in three years and will succeed Sarah Sanders, who is leaving the position at the end of the month and will return to her home state of Arkansas.
"She actually gets along with the media very well, as you know," the president told reporters. "A lot of folks in the media like her very much. And I think she's going to be fantastic. I think she's going to do a great job." Grisham is a longtime communications operative in Republican politics working largely in Arizona. She also briefly worked on Mitt Romney's presidential campaign.
