NRC Assam Additional 1 Lakh names released, 1 Lakh more names dropped from register of citizens, ahead of July deadline published in Assam. Additional exclusion list to draft NRC released today by Assam Government. This list contains names of those people who will be excluded of National Register of Citizens. The office of the Coordinator for the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam on Wednesday published an “additional draft exclusion list” consisting the names of 1,02,462 people.

People whose names have been excluded from the additional list will be informed individually through Letters of Information (LoI) that will be delivered to them at their residential addresses. These people will have the opportunity to file their claims at the designated NRC Seva Kendras (NSKs) till July 11. Their claims will be disposed thereafter before publication of the final National Register of Citizens on July 31.

Of more than 3 crore people who had applied for inclusion of their names in the NRC, 40 lakh did not make it in the final draft NRC that was published on July 30 last year. With the additional exclusion draft list published on Wednesday, the total number of excluded people now stands at more than 41 lakh. According to a statement issued by the state coordinator of NRC, the list has been published as per provisions of Clause 5 of the Schedule of the Citizenship (Registration of Citizens and Issue of National Identity Cards) Rules 2003.

Those persons who will be excluded will also be informed individually through Letters of Information (LOI) to be delivered at their residential addresses along with the reason of exclusion. The other categories of people in the additional list are those found to be ineligible while appearing as witnesses in hearings held for disposal of claims and objections, and during the process of verification carried out by the local registrars of citizens registration.
