Lashana Lynch will play 007 in new James Bond movie, The first black and female 007 in Bond 25, Captain Marvel star Lashana Lynch. James Bond fans wanting 007 to be either black or female are in for a double treat with the movie spy about to be played by a black woman, according to a report on Sunday. MI6 special agent 007 is getting a new face and, apparently, a new gender too because actress Lashana Lynch is reportedly set to take on the mantle in the upcoming Bond flick.
Ever so slowly, Hollywood is starting to get its shit together when it comes to casting for major roles. Following a procession of men to have held the post of 007 since the James Bond franchise launched in 1962, the role will, at long last, belong to a black woman.
The move is reportedly down to the intervention of Fleabag creator, Phoebe Waller Bridge, who was invited to liven up the script for the upcoming film which is still known only as Bond 25.
She made her acting debut in an episode of The Bill in 2007, but her movie debut came in the 2011 drama Fast Girls, about two female sprinters aiming for the World Championships which also starred Lily James, Lenora Crichlow and Noel Clarke.
A movie insider said: “There is a pivotal scene at the start of the film where M says ‘Come in 007’, and in walks Lashana who is black, beautiful and a woman. It’s a popcorn-dropping moment. Bond is still Bond but he’s been replaced as 007 by this stunning woman.”
The Oscar-winning actor played James Bond’s ultimate adversary in 2015’s Spectre and is set to lock horns with the super-spy once more despite claiming that he wouldn’t star in the next movie.
‘Bond, of course, is sexually attracted to the new female 007 and tries his usual seduction tricks, but is baffled when they don’t work on a brilliant, young black woman who basically rolls her eyes at him and has no interest in jumping into his bed,’ a source told the Daily Mail.
