Ivanka Trump, Awkward Performance with G20 Leaders Tried To Butt In On A Conversation And It’s Already A Meme. The G20 is an international economic forum, where the leaders of the European Union and 19 other countries come together to talk about the global economy. First daughter Ivanka Trump did her best to fill in for her dad at this weekend’s G20 Summit.
The French government on Saturday released a brief clip of a discussion at the G20 summit in Osaka involving four world leaders – and Ivanka Trump. In the 19 seconds of footage, Donald Trump’s daughter appears to attempt to join a conversation between French president Emmanuel Macron, Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau, International Monetary Fund director Christine Lagarde and British prime minister Theresa May.
The footage shows her trying to converse with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, UK Prime Minister Theresa May, French President Emmanuel Macron and International Monetary Fund chairwoman Christine Lagarde in Osaka, Japan. The leaders’ eye contact and body language then moves away from Ivanka Trump. She makes a few nods and comments and smiles eagerly.
Back in Washington, national security officials bristled at the large presence Ivanka assumed while overseas. But those close to the President described it as business as usual. She appeared on camera in a video published by the White House giving a readout of a trilateral meeting between the President, Indian President Narendra Modi and Abe, a responsibility traditionally carried out by a national security staffer in a written statement.
Trump agrees, and says: “And the same with the defence side I think, in terms of the whole sort of…” Standing to Trump’s right, Lagarde looks steadily at Trudeau. The president’s daughter tails off, gesturing with her hands. “It may be shocking to some, but being someone’s daughter actually isn’t a career qualification,” Ms Ocasio-Cortez tweeted.
