Earthquake jolts Maharashtra’s Palghar, 3.8-magnitude 4 Earthquake hits Palghar in 12 minutes, one woman killed in house collapse. A magnitude 3.8 earthquake shook Dahanu in the Talasari belt of Palghar district at 1:03am and was followed by 3.6, 2.9 and 2.8 till 1:15am. The tremors were felt in Boisar as well.
A man was killed when his house collapsed after four tremors shook parts of Palghar district in Maharashtra in the wee hours of Thursday, officials said. The series of tremors caused panic among residents who expressed concern over such mishaps recurring in the district, Palghar disaster management cell chief Vivekanand Kadam said.
A woman, Rishma Meghwale (55), was killed when her house collapsed in Vasavlapada area of Dahanu after the series of mild earthquakes, said Santosh Kadam, head of the regional disaster management cell in neighbouring Thane district.
Since last night more than seven minor jolts were experienced, said locals. Several villagers in Boisar taluka of Palghar district also felt the tremors. Locals said that due to heavy rains it was difficult to run out of the homes when a jolt is felt.
“The quakes are also being monitored by Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT-B), National Centre for Seismology in New Delhi, National Geophysical Research Institute of Hyderabad and other organisations,” said Kadam.
