Dutee Chand wins Gold Medal, The First Indian Wins Historic 100 Meter Gold Medal in Summer World University Games. Dutee Chand won the gold medal in the women's 100-metre sprint at the 30th Summer University Games in Naples on Tuesday. This is the first time an Indian has won a 100-metre gold at this global event. The 23-year-old had qualified for the finals with a 11.41s finish in the semifinal heats and led the final race from start to finish on Tuesday.

Chand won the gold medal in just 11.32 seconds. She also She also holds the 100m national record with 11.24 seconds. Dutee, who won two silver medals at the 2018 Asian Games, became one of the few athletes in the world to openly admit same-sex relationship.

Chand, a 100m record holder and winner of two Asian Games silver medals, recently made up the headlines after she opened up about her homosexuality. She revealed that she is in a same-sex relationship with a girl from her home town.

Born in Chaka Gopalpur in Odisha to cotton weavers, Chand has been championing the cause of eligibility of female athletes in track and field events.

She later took to Twitter and posted a picture of her with the gold medal along with the other medalists.
