Hours after the phone call, Christine Spliid, a key associate of Michel left Delhi for London. Within few days two NRIs — Saahil Parkash Mehra and Sonya Mehra, both British nationals of Indian origin — were inducted into 'Beetle Nut Home Limited' a UK based company owned by Michel through proxies. He was running six other companies — Crystal Decor Limited, Twin Holdings Limited, Croprotein Limited, Globe Oil, Global Trade and Commerce Limited and Curzons Management Associates — though key associates. At least 12 phoney contracts were signed between his firms and AgustaWestland to legitimise approximately Rs 295 crore paid as kickbacks to secure the deal.

Wolfgang Michel, fondly called Walters in the arms lobby, promoted three companies Entera Corporation, UCM International Trading Limited and Ferro-Imports Limited. Between 1987 and 1996, Entera Corporation reportedly earned more than £2 million from India. Michel virtually inherited his business and contacts in India from his father and got first big break in 2002 when he was employed by French company Dassault in Rs 2,500 crore Mirage fighter deal.

“Dear Peter, since Mrs. Gandhi (Sonia Gandhi) is the driving force behind VIP will no longer fly in the MI-8. Mrs. Gandhi and her closest advisers are the people who the British ambassador should target..Prime Minister Manmohan Singh obviously main figure, then there is Secretary (Sonia's Political Secretary) Ahmed Patel,” Michel's letter had said.

A CBI official said National Security Advisor Ajit Doval supervised the entire operation to extradite Michel and a team of CBI led by its joint director A Sai Manohar executed it on the ground.
