Blue Flower Moon, Full Moon In Scorpio Is Rare And Sexy, This month’s full moon has an exciting name  the Blue Flower Full Moon. It will appear in the sky this Saturday, May 18. This full moon appears in Scorpio, so we’ll be experiencing some of that intense Scorpio energy.

There are two definitions of a blue moon. One—incorrectly—says it is when there are two full moons in one month, and the second of the two is sometimes called a blue moon. But as the U.K.’s Royal Museums Greenwich notes, this interpretation arose in the 1940s and was “perpetuated by radio shows and the Trivial Pursuit board game through the 1980’s.”

The correct definition of a blue moon—or an “astronomical full moon”—is where an astronomical season has four full moons

You may be familiar with the saying ‘once in a blue moon’, but how often do we actually see them? According to NASA, we see them once every two and half years.

Two types of Blue Moons

  • The seasonal blue moon

This one is the third full moon in an astronomical season with four full moons.

  • The monthly blue moon

This one is the second full moon in a month with two full moons.

The next full Moon will be on Saturday afternoon, May 18, 2019, appearing opposite the Sun (in Earth-based longitude) at 5:11 PM EDT. The Moon will appear full for about three days around this time, from Friday evening through Monday morning, making this a full Moon weekend.

May’s full moon is also known as a flower moon. This relates to the traditional names once given to full moons by early cultures in Europe and America. The name flower is given as May is the time of year when flowers come into bloom.
